Everything will work but the lockup for the 700 TC. You will need to get the lockup kit sold at summit or jegs, etc. to keep from stressing the 3-4 clutches. Assuming you have a mechanical fan. If you put in an electric fan (reccomended) you will have to wire a relay/solenoid setup for it.

If it already has the electric fan than it's already wired in the engine harness and not the ECM harness. I have a factory carb motor (LG4) and there is a temperature switch in the passenger side head that kicks the fan on and off. One thing you can do is get a lower temperature fan control switch or just wire a switch to ground and run another wire to the wire going to the thermal switch. Splice the two wires together and you can turn on the fan when you want it to and it only runs with the key on so it won't run down the battery.

I also got an upper and lower fan shroud and fans from a L98/LB9 set up. I now have dual fans and added a second relay in parallel to the single fan to control the second fan. That way the relay is only handling the load of one fan each. Less wear and tear on the relay contacts.

I don't think the 83 had electric fans is why I said that. I had an 84, had a fan clutch from the factory

Yea I knew the early cars had clutch fans but I don't know if any, like the HO, came with electric fans. Still it's an easy conversion, use the thermal switch for the relay coil, the other side of the relay coil to switched +12V. Then on the relay switch, Constant +12V to the "C" connection and the Fan + supply to the "N.O." connection (normally open). Then the Fan - to chassis ground.

The "N.C." connection (normally closed) does not get connected to anything. On some automotive relays this wire/pin is missing.

Re: wire harness removal question

Im doing a "no cut" harness removal on a EX-CCC 5 speed 84 TA right now, and I always read that the whole passenger side harness could be simply shoved back thru the fender....but be careful, I found a couple of trans wires (back up lights I think, attatched to a plug on the drivers side of the trans), AC wires, and a couple of grounds on the back of the passenger head loomed in with the passenger side harness .... now I dont think I need the grounds as they probably just grounded ecm sensors (anyone?), dont have AC but i wanna keep those wires in the bay for future reinstall, and Id like to keep my back up lights.....so I had to split the Loom to free those wires Id like to keep... then Im on to cleaning up the Vaccum lines...

For auto tranny cars, the ECM harness includes circuits for the torque converter clutch lockup, and a signal to the computer that the transmission is in 4th gear.

If you remove the computer, or disable any inputs to it (such as the computer carb or distributor), the torque converter clutch lockup function must be provided by a different means.

Exactly, Still you need to make sure you don't cut or disconnect the grounding strap from the head to the body though.

Re: wire harness removal question

I just removed the harness tonight went painlessly. Although I cut the wires for the lockup plug and looking at Mitchell on demand (my shop software) at the wire diagram and its only ran to the computer for power otherwise it's mainly vacuum operated so I'm taking the plug for the solenoid on the drivers side firewall and providing a power, ground, and signal wire to the solenoid and to the trany to see if it works

Hot Rodders have been putting TH700R4's into their street rods for years and have some very good ideas and mods to make the lock-up work.
