Recommendation Please Re: Intake vs stock

Hey everyone, I have a 1984 Camaro L69 5.0 HO with the stock carburetor and stock intake manifold and edelbrock TES w/ AIR Headers. I have just come across a bran new never used 600CFM Holly Carburetor and an Edelbrock Intake Manifold. I am going to be doing some work to my car in a week because of a worn passenger side header gasket and Im wondering if I should put these two new parts in while I have the hood open.

Will I notice a performance increase with this new setup vs the old one? Will I be running into any issues switching the stock carb out for an aftermarket holly.?

Thanks for any help.

Which Edelbrock intake, there are a few? I presume your HO is stock, if so and you put the Holley on you will have to replace the distributor with a vacuum advance type and you will have to do something about the convertor lockup. There are plenty of posts on how to do this. I put an Edelbrock RPM intake, a Holley 600 and headers on my 84 HO and it runs pretty well.

But you can just leave it the way it is and tune it up and it will probably go just as well, YMMV.

You will not see a performance increase, and the downsides are many.

I would do the switch if your current carb needs a over haul, IF you get the new set up tuned right you ll be fine.

Have the carb rebuilt. Absolutly nothing wrong with a Rochester. And you know what you got.
