Engine wants to quit after warm up

Don't know where the proper forum for this issue would be, so I threw it in the "Carb" section

After the car is completely warmed up (engine temp gauge goes to and exceeds 220...the fan turns on, the engine temp does not redline ) and I am idling at a stop, when I start to move it takes a lot (A LOT) of gas pedal to keep the engine from quitting. I almost have to fudge the modulation between the clutch and gas to keep the engine from stalling.

The car runs flawless when cold. The plugs have been changed.

Here are some issues that I think may point to something.

1) exhaust manifold leak... Ticking sound and exhaust smell from the front of the car. Could the extremely hot exhaust air make vapor lock an issue?

2) Passenger side spark plugs (2-4-6-8) all have excessive carbon (oil leak in the cylinder head?)

3) rebuilt carburetor installed 18 months ago.

Anyway, I hope I provided enough info

Chuck

1. Get headers! Hooker 2055 or Dyno Don's! Easier to work around and will free up 10-20hp. It's not vapor lock.

2. Possibly. Do a compression check.

Finally, take a look at this tuning part for the Qjet here: Quadrajet Tuning

Hope this helps!
