carb. eliminate ECM

I got a 92 camaro that has been carb'd for awhile now and wanting to clean up engine bay. Can I eliminate the computer and still have all my guages work ? Not sure if any of the guages or a/c run through the computer. If not then I will dissect the harness to and cut all the extra wires out.

If you take out your computer you're going to have to swap out your distributor too. A/C is not run through the computer (I don't think at least). You can always get a mechanical set of gauges off an older model and not worry about it.

You shouldn't have to cut any wires.

The gauges don't go through the computer.

Re: carb. eliminate ECM

I disectee the harnes and I dont need the computer at all everything goes from the sensors to the guages direct. I did keep the wires for the speed sensor. I got rid of the auto and cut those wires out and all other wkres are gone. Motor is carbd so I didnt need dist. Wires you just need a power and a tach wire. Left those in there and left all a/c wipers and wores that I jeed. But everything is gone and looks good now just gotta tape everything up and put new looms on it.

Fuel gauge has nothing to do with the ECM. More than likely you have a bad sending unit or something wrong with the wire connections going through the tank.

You will have a connector above the axle. The grey wire is the power to the fuel pump, black with white stripe will be ground, and purple (I believe that's the color) is the sending unit. If there is something wrong with the sending unit then the ohm meter will read an open across those two wires. If you connect an ohm meter across the purple and black wires you and get a resistance measurement then your problem might be either the gauge in the dash or the wiring to the gauge.
