Those with feedback Q jets

Looking at a Gbody that someone took the 305 out of put a goodwrench 350 in wiht a teeny cam
Motor shakes a bit at idle seems to run fine other than that
I know every motor will move some...this isnt horrible but isnt normal either. I think

any of you swapped for something like this?
How did it run?

Re: Those with feedback Q jets

While I haven't done this myself, I have a feedback carbed Oldsmobile with a 307 that I plan to replace with a 350. I'm sure others will chime in, but I've done some research and what you are describing is typical. The stock carburetor and adjustments are for the 305, which is going to be too lean for a 350. It is possible to make the CCC system work with a larger motor, as long as the cam duration isn't too great. The CCC system needs vacuum to work properly. You will need to play with the Idle air bleed and mixture screws to get the idle working properly. I believe you can adjust the M/C solenoid stops as well. The secondary side of the carb is the same as a conventional Q-Jet. The stock rods are too lean for a 350l, but are easily replaced. Back in the late 80s/90s GM used ZZ3 crate motor on a Z28 to prove that the CCC system can compensate for a few more cubes and pass emissions and make great power. There is also a great tech write up here on the E-Qjet.

If I were buying that car, I'd want to know what kind of cam the engine has and what work the seller has done to the carb, if any.

I'd suggest searching up the G-body forum to see what kind of info you will find there. Good luck!

Re: Those with feedback Q jets

That motor should idle little-old-lady smooth.

I've done a number of 305 cars both to 350s and 400s; never had much trouble getting the CC Q-Jet to adapt, as long as the idle vacuum was above about 14 and steady. Can't imagine that a 8.2:1 350 with a 929 cam would have any trouble with it. Of course, one man's definition of "teeny" might be different from another's; but I think yours and mine are probably close enough that we understand each other.

While it's always possible that the carb is defective, it's certainly not "inadequate" in any way that would cause that. I'd suggest looking elsewhere for the source of the problem, either ignition system, or something in the valve train like an intake too tight or the like.

Re: Those with feedback Q jets

I stuck a 350 with the ZZ3 cam under my CCC Q-jet and it idles nearly stock smooth after idle screw and air bleed adjustment.
As sofa says, look elsewhere for the problem before suspecting the carb.
With the cam that comes in the Goodwrench motor, the carb should require almost no adjustment from what worked best with the 305.
