trading carbs

looking for advice: I have a 750 edelbrock w/elect. choke on my 357v8 and was going for something smaller as this appears to be too big for the engine. I put an ad on CL and found someone who had a 600cfm edel. 1405 on a tow truck that has a 454 in it and they want a bigger carb. my carb is coming with a calibration kit. is this deal worth it or should I just bite the bullet and order one thru SUMMIT RACING or CARBURETORSANDMORE.COM

ps. my carb has 2500miles on it.

Re: trading carbs

I'd sell the one you have and buy a new one. Unless the one he's offering to trade only has 2500 miles on it.

Re: trading carbs

it was on a wrecker truck and when I asked to hear it run he said I would not be able to. idk , part of me wants to buy new then another part of me says a straight up trade wouldn't be a bad idea but idk what to look for if the carb is bad.

Re: trading carbs

Just helped a friend do this. The 750s sell for more than the 600s. I got a used 1405 that needed a rebuild off ebay for $50 then a rebuild kit for $30 and went to town with the cleaner. 100% good to go was about $100 then we sold the working 750 for $150.

Something like this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/edelbrock-1405-carburetor-/141385835130?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20eb40a27a&vxp=mtr
+

http://www.ebay.com/itm/EDELBROCK-CARBURETOR-REBUILD-KIT-1477-1400-140-4-1405-1406-1407-1411-1409-/181487830781?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a418486fd&vxp=mtr
Or have him throw in some cash. Either way I would rebuild the 600 just so I know.

Re: trading carbs

if you go holley, buy a book, and learn how to tune them,...you wont want an eddy carb. JMO.
