91 firebird v8 305 tbi gas/mileage problems
Hey all,
It's been forever since I've been on here. I hope you are all enjoying your thirdgens
Recently, my car has been burning quite rich. My fuel mileage is pitiful, too. I used to get, believe it or not, about 275 to 300 miles out of a full tank of gas on my bird with my v8 305 tbi. That is phenomenal mileage for this car. Now, I am lucky if I get 200. :-( :-(
I switched my spark plugs because I was going on a really long ride to north Jersey (wanted to be safe), and it ran really rich, so I switched them back to the same type of autolites I had on them before (but I got new ones). It solved my problem for a little while, but then the car began acting up again.
I have replaced my o2 sensor and catalytic converter (it was hollowed out before, and I was actually unaware). Like I said, I have new spark plugs, as well.
The car runs rich, and when I step out after I shut it off, the smell of gas slaps me in the face. I know I have an exhaust leak, but the gas smell is like a raw gas smell.
Since I have owned the car, which is almost a year, I have not yet replaced the fuel pump.
Only things I have worked on/replaced/put in fresh are:
Fan switch
Relays pertaining to the fan/ignition
Oil filter
Oil
Transmission fluid
Spark plugs (autolites, to bosch- they were awful and I learned my lesson, to ac delco rapidfires- I didn't like these either, and back to the plain autolites)
Tranny mount
Brakes (front and rear)
Antifreeze
Radiator work
Catalytic Converter
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing my problems?
Thanks in advance for any help you may provide

possible faulty fuel pressure regulator would be my guess.

On a 91. Check for a cracked filler neck or hoses by the tank.
