I don't see why you couldn't fab up a mount bracket and mount it there, I've also seen a few mounted to the front of the driver's side head, where the A/c bracket would be on an A/C equipped car; and yeah, most folks use flex line.

i put mine on the fender where there was a cruise actuator on my 6cyl car, to me it seems like a safety issue, if you have drips which always happen, i would rather it be away from the hot engine and exhaust. also need to be able to see the gauge and adjust the screw

Looks like I won't be able to mount it to the block anyway. Even with a 90 degree fitting, the inlet touches the motor mount.
Does the regulator really need to be bolted to anything? Can it be 'supported' by the lines themselves?

I just fabbed up a quick bracket. This was during the test fitting and construction process.
