Oil In Carb

I just changed my filter and realised a fair amount of oil in my Holley. I'm sure this isn't a major problem but is it right?

Also sometimes the throttle sticks very slightly at cruising speeds and I need to tap the throttle to completly release it.

Sometimes there will be an induction backfire when I have been driving quickly and then slow down. When I accelerate, bang. This is reall yintermittent though.

It is either the carb or the timing I think, maybe you guys could lead me the right way?

Thanks

Make sure your PCV system is working correctly. You really should not have any oil in the carb. How many miles are on the engine? Verify the timing is correct. A lean condition will cause a backfire--does it backfire more when it's cold?

Still need to verify timing. Does timing sometimes slip then? I thought once it was set, it stayed there? (excuse my insolence). It backfires as much when she's warm as when she is cold.

The plugs didn't look to oiled up when I changed them though, but the behaviour would suggest a lean mixture...
