carb problems?

Have an lg4 305 with cc quadrabog. Car is an 84 berlinetta. The problem I'm having other than it actually being a quadrajet is when I start the car it attempts to redline on its own. I've checked the throttle cable blah blah and it's not hung up or stuck. I had it idling just two hours before. Also I know the lockup feature on the tranny is run by the ecm. When it was running ok It would shift into od but wouldnt stay there. Keeps downshifting at any rpm. Could the ecm be the problem with both? Thanks for any replies.

Re: carb problems?

Downshift is controlled by a cable sounds like something is out of whack with the linkage. What did you change to make it run poorly?

Nothing. Didn't even touch it between the time it idled fine till it tried to Rev to the moon. Did complete tuneup rebuilt the carb changed fuel pump and a couple of suspension items. Ran damn near perfect. Until yesterday. Oh I hooked back up the pcv valve. Also I did notice the vapor return off the carburetor isn't vapor. Actually has fuel going thru it. Honestly I'm not sure there's supposed to be fuel in that line.

The charcoal canister should not have fuel in it. It almost sounds like you got the lines switched around on the fuel pump, so it's trying to pump fuel through the evap\canister line instead of the carb.

Re: carb problems?

isolate the charcoal canister lines from the carb. you can plug all of the carb ports for now. it's not a crossed fuel line.

look for a large vacuum leak. vac line loose or disconnected.

assume it ran fine one day then crap the next with no other changes?
