Fuel senders

Having a hard time finding an answer to my question.

In the process of building a 383, looking to get 450-500 hp. My question is regarding the fuel sender. I can't seem to find a fuel sender with anything bigger than 5/16" fuel line. Does anyone make a fuel sender with 3/8" or even 1/2" fuel line? It's a carb'd car, and I intend to install a fuel pump IN THE TANK. I've already got a "return" style regulator under the hood with 3/8" line to the double pumper.

I've already looked at spectre's FG20A, and it's only 5/16". What about any other applications? Fourth gen pumps? I'm sure fuel tank depth is an important factor as well as flange size. Any help is appreciated!

Thank you!

Re: Fuel senders

You might want to double check the FG20A again. That's what I bought, and it was 3/8" on the fuel side. The return is 5/16". I used stainless steel compression fittings for some repair work to the hard lines and can verify that the feed inside the tank and to the block is 3/8" (At least the one I got).

Now, my stock fuel gauge isn't reading right (full is somewhere between 1/2 and 3/4 on the gauge), but there is no problem with the flow.

Re: Fuel senders

It's easy enough to twist the tubes in the stock sender and break the solder joints. Pull the old tube out, bend a new larger tube, use a tapered punch to stretch the hole in the sending unit just big enough for your new tube, slip it into position and solder the joint. For added security and integrity you'll probably want to tie the various feed/retuen, and vent lines together, and use something like the factory rubber block that holds the hard lines to the tank for stress relief.
