Car dies when hot at idle
Car dies when hot at idle
So weird one...this started happening about a month ago....
84 LG4 AUTO All stock. Rochester CCC. Car runs great until choke fully opens up. When its hot, it will run great anywhere other than idle. If I sit t a red light for 30-60 seconds the rpms will slows die down and the car will stall if I don't give it gas.
I thought it may be fuel pump but if I give it gas, and start driving its fine. Issue only happens when hot, choke fully opened, sitting...guessing its in the carb but before I rip into it figured would get any advice. thanks.

Possibly a clogged idle circuit. When you step on the gas or have the choke opening the throttle blades then you're on the primary circuit giving the engine fuel.

Thanks for the reply. When you say Idle circuit what should I look for? clean? guessing its gummed up since this is new....do I have to remove the carb and dis-assemble? Can I pull the IAB screw our and squirt around? thanks

Re: Car dies when hot at idle
I'd treat it as if it's internal at and air bleed or something and do a full rebuild to refresh it, but that's me. I'd rather see the internals themselves so I, personally, know what's going on inside. But I also like working on a carburetor. If I don't know something about it, I like learning it. You might get lucky and not need to.
