CarburetorsCarb discussion and questions. Upgrading your Third Gen's carburetor, swapping TBI to carburetor, or TPI to carburetor? Need LG4 or H.O. info? Post it here.
Got an 86 z28. We swapped the carbed 305 to a brand new carbed 355 and put a new Holley 625 street demon on it. The fuel pump is the standard off the old 305. I’d like to swap the standard fuel pump to a little better one. Most all have just in & out ports. What do you do with the return line?
Get the correct pump with the Inlet, Discharge, and Return ports. And really, if your existing pump is working fine, you should leave it alone, because today's replacement parts are often not as good as what you are replacing...
If your 1986 Z28 has the (Vapor-Lock Update) In-Tank Low-Pressure Electric Fuel-Pump, in addition to the Mechanical Fuel-Pump...
I would use the Return Line.
Purchase an inexpensive Holley Return-Style Fuel Pressure Regulator (for Carburetors) and connect it to the Return Line.
Produced in a Black or Chrome Finish...
Holley Part-Number; #12-887, or 12-881.
Both are about $63.00 at Summit racing.

That looks nice. I find it curious that the fittings are NPT rather than flare like the stock fuel line. What creates the seal.
Thread sealant tape isn't really made for fuel applications...

You can just cap the return and call it a day. Disconnect the factory return line at the tank.
No Tape should be used with Automotive applications...
Too much risk of a piece clogging or restricting a passage (especially Auto-Trans, Carb/ Fuel Systems, Engine Oil Systems, Etc).
