Carb and emissions question

Ok, I think that I beat this subject to death before, but I looked over the postings and I am still a little confused. So, I will boil it down to a simple question: My 84 Camaro, 305, cc Carb, has had the exhaust manifolds removed and replaced with headers. The headers do not have the O2 sensor bung. I understand that, if I keep the cc Carb system, I will probably need to weld one on and put the O2 sensor back on. However, will the emissions control equipment being removed affect the computer/carb at all? By emissions, I mean the smog pump, cat, and all the little tubes that ran from the pump to the exhaust manifold. The carb and distrubutor are stock. The carb needs to be replaced, which is why I asked the question. In my last post, I had voiced the idea of changing over to mechanical carb and hei distributor. However, the cost for all-new parts is prohibitive. ($600+) I would rather not spend that much if I can just buy a new cc Carb, which will be much cheaper (and less time consuming) than replaing the dist, and putting in a lock-up kit for the tranny. Thanks in advance for your help![COLOR=sandybrown]

The computer shouldn't care about the AIR system not being there, but it will certainly care about the O2 sensor missing.

Why do you need to replace the carburetor?

Carb needs replacing because the secondaries do not work. At WOT, they just bog the engine down. I have tried to tune them repeadly, but to no avail.

There are a limited number of things that affect bog - AV spring adjustment, choke pull-off, and to a small degree, rods & hanger.

Buying a new carb is going to buy you into a new set of problems. You'd probably be better off fixing the minor problem you have now.

Oh, get an O2 sensor in there, too...
