Carb Engine Sending Unit suggestions
1984 Z28 currently running a Holley 600 on a 327 put in by the PO. Original carbed car. I have an LS on a stand but probably wont be able to get that swap done for another year or so. Ever since I got this car the fuel gauge has been pegged past full. While I'm having some other work done on the car I was going to have them drop the tank and take a look at the sending unit and verify if maybe it just got unplugged at some point. I know the carbed sending units are really expensive compared to the pump units. Since I'm at a cross roads of eventually needing an EFI pump down the line, does a stock in tank pump sending unit fit in the stock tank opening for a carbed car?
I figure at the very least I can add more tube in place of the pump and have the ability to pull it during the swap and add a pump or maybe get a pump now and run a regulator for the carb. Any suggestions? I'd really like to have a working fuel gauge!

The connector for the sender is in front of the tank. Might do a visual check and ohm the sender it’s 0-90 zero is full.

Thanks, that was the initial plan, but I'm trying to plan my next steps in case the unit is plugged in but just bad. Seems excessive to shell out $300 for a carb sending unit if I can put a pump based unit in there without the pump.

So if your gonna do a LS swap (efi I assume) and your dropping the tank, just swap your lines/filters sender now and use a quality fuel pressure regulator. Make sure you use a good size return and you wont over heat the pump. 6an lines for both the feed/return are good up to 650-700 hp. I used an aeromotive stealth in tank pump/sender w 6an lines w their filters/regulator.
the 84 cars the sender wiring comes from the driver side tail light area and goes to the top of the tank. You can see the harness on the driver side of the tank. The bulkhead setup didn't show up till 85 i think. Totally look and check the connections/power. In firebirds you can check the harness near where the tail light harness goes through the body i assume camaros are the same(?)
ps: dropping the tank is miserable. If you're doing the tank/sender future proof it. Do all the stuff you'll need for the future swap. That way you don't have to do that miserable job twice!
