What years for carb fuel sending units
My camaro is a 92. The engine is a carbed big block. While I have the tank out to sump it I want to put in a new sending unit. Since I dont need the intank pump I was thinking about using a sending unit from an earlier carburated car. I was just gonna go to napa and buy a new one if I can. Im assuming an 82-? would work. Tanks are the same right? Im using an autometer fuel level gauge. 0-90ohm is what I need I believe.

Just use the one you've got, assuming the fuel level float works okay, and do this to it: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/carb...nk-pickup.html
I rather doubt you'll find a new one (but I could be wrong). But, if you insist on looking, carb'd w/o in-tank electric fuel pump years would be '82-'86. Be aware that there were EFI models in those years, and the carb'd L69 HO had an in-tank electric pump as well.
Even better would be to use a good pump like a Walbro as a pusher, to a mechanical pump if you like, with a return-style reg like a Mallory 4309. Pumps push better than they pull, and the more power you make, the less effective sucking on a column of liquid that is trying to move back to the tank due to acceleration will be.

Re: What years for carb fuel sending units
Thats some good info. thanks for the help. I have already sumped my tank for running 10an lines to my magna fuel quickstar 300 electric pump. Im feeding a 14:1 565ci bbc and I didnt think the stock pickup tube would flow enough fuel for the demand. I was going to use the stock sending unit for the vent and return lines and a fuel level gauge. Im not sure if my sending unit works. Its been a while since it was all together.

Ah, you weren't complete in providing information. A 565 is more than what comes to mind when one hears "carb'd big block". . .
You shouldn't have to do anything to the sending unit, but if the tank is already down, you can check out the fuel level sending unit with a ohm meter. You can either remove the stock in-tank electric pump and cap off the line, or leave it there.
Some might argue that the stock return line is too small. Might want to consider putting a larger line in there.

Re: What years for carb fuel sending units
Well I checked my sending unit and its not working. I must have let it lay around to long in the garage. A new one from napa is 230$ plus 50$ for a level gauge. I might just buy the street fuel cell kit from Ed Quay for 300$ and be done with it. Then I won't have to mess with the rear end either.
