Tuning question on me holley
Mods and such are in the sig... Ok, here's what it's doing. From a dead stop and going WOT the engine seems to hit a point right at 3,000 rpm where it just takes off like crazy till I shift. Below 3,000 rpm is kind of sluggish. I've got the timing curve set at I think 42* total timing with it having full advance in at around the 2,500 rpm mark (forget now it's been a while) The jetting seems pretty good since one step up on either primary or secondary causes a black spot on the bumper. It has the stock PV and pump cam in (orange I believe) just bought a pump cam assortment to start playing with over the weekend. The last time I checked vacuum at idle (550 rpm) it was pulling 15. So what would give me a bit better throttle response down under 3,000 rpm? Thanks for any advice

It sounds like the carb is setup fairly well. I would recheck the timing you dident mention the base timing 15in of vac at idle sounds low to me for your engine and cam indicating a fairly low timing setting. You should be pulling 17in easy even at a low idle. Hook up your vac guage at set the timming according to vaccume. Avdavnce the distributor until the vac peaks then from there drop it 2*.

I think the base timing is set at about 12*, I'll mess around with it today. Thanks

42 total, all in at 2500 sounds just fine to me assuming it doesn't ping. I don;t think thats your problem.
The jets could be too lean...taking it down on power till the PV opens up at ~3000. The secondaries might be opening up too late too. Kinda hard to narrow it down without either playing with it or using an A/F gauge.

What you're feeling is the secondaries opening up - finally. You've got a lot of carb for not much engine (displacement, that is).
Have you tried lighter secondary springs? You want the lightest one that doesn't cause bog when you nail it. That simply means the secondaries are opening when the engine needs it. Bog occurs when the secondaries open before the engine can use it. Sounds like yours is opening later than when the engine can use it (have the same issue with the 396, but I'm already using the lightest spring).
BTW, how do you go one step richer on the secondaries? Don't Avengers have metering blocks on the secondaries?

I've already got the lightest spring I have in there, might try and pick a pack of them up I guess... Metering block? not in mine, got jets to mess around with I haven't had the chance to do anything with the car since the original post... screwed up my back so I've been taking it easy.
