my first try

hey guys,
I'm very new to carbs. I have a stock lg4 in my car and I know it needs a rebuild, it stumbles all over the place and runs pretty bad plus idles high. I can get one off a wreck for 27 buck, my question is should I do it and then rebuild the one off the wreck and then swap them out. or should I just try to finish my rebuild within a day, keep in mind its my only car and I've never done it before.

Sounds more like a choke problem than a need for a rebuild.

But, you could do what you proposed, or put the JY carb on the car and fix up the one on there now.

Get a good q-jet book before you start (either Doug Roe's book or the Haynes version). Read it over so you understand what you need to do, what you can mess up, and the tools you'll need to do the job.

I picked up the Haynes book at Pep Boys.

Try amazon.com for the Roe book. Search on "rochester" and "Rochester Carburetors by Doug Roe" will come up. $12.56 new, low as $9.24 used. Or, they offer both the Roe and Haynes books for $25.82.

(Now you done it - researching that info I went and ordered one for myself...)
