Non-Third Gen but...
I just bought a beater. Tired of driving my 1972 around in winter. Anyways. The only problem mechanically is that the car will die at the stoplight unless you have your foot on the gas and also die when given too much gas. Is this just carburator tuning? i was thinking idle speed maybe. BTW its a 86 carbed 305. Thanks

I doubt it's just the carb.
Check all your tune-up items: plugs, cap, rotor, wires, timing. Then, do the carb stuff - idle speed, choke adjustment and pull-off, secondary opening (& rods/hanger if necessary).
