Need help with vacuum lines.
Need help with vacuum lines.
I just switched carburetors on my 86 Iroc. Went from a Quadrajet to a Edelbrock 1400. It seems like there was more vacuum lines hooked up to the Quadrajet then there would be with the Edelbrock. My question is what goes where on the Edelbrock?? Any info would be great. THANKS

The Edlebrock won't have all the necessary vacuum ports that your old QJet had. Specifically, the fuel bowl vent and low-vacuum emissions ports. No biggie since you have basically gone non-emissions by ditching the cc-QJet.
I usually go by the FUNCTION of the vacuum port and then find a port with the same fuction on the new carb. Full vacuum ports supply engine vacuum all the time. Ported vacuum supplies vacuum only above idle speeds. Put on the old carb temporarily and determine what kind of vacuum the ports on the old carb supplied (and which hoses were attached to the port). Then do the same thing with the new carb and match up the correct function for each vacuum line. DON'T go by the size fo the vacuum line or the fitting it goes on- it's meaningless. It's what they do that is important.
BTW- when you ditched the cc-QJet did you also replace your cc-distributor with a non-cc one? Very important to do the distributor at the same time as the carb or you will end up with WORSE performance for all your efforts.
