the needle hangs from the float right??
might sound like a stupid question but..i just did a rebuild and my plugs are coated with gas......and its popping out of the exhaust...it was fine before the rebuild....put in a new needle and seat....and the little gasket......i hung the needle from the float ... put in the pivot pin and put the float into place......put the accelerator pump and the primary rods back in..put that black bowl and the black plastic thing that covers the needle area..slaped on a gasket and sealed her up... now my plugs are covered with gas instantly...and i'm getting popping out of the exhaust.......i can run the car ..if i turn the mixture screws tight.. then back off just a hair......still runs.....
this couldnt be caused by vacuum leaks right.......that would lean it out...????
car ran fine.... flooded bad.....did rebuild... now this. ..
thanx guys

When you hang the needle on the float, you have to make sure it isn't hanging from one of the holes there. It "free hangs" in between the two holes. Also you have to adjust the float level to the correct setting by actually bending the float arms. Just dropping a float in there is unlikely to be at the correct setting. I honestly don't know if this could be causing your problem, but they are pretty important things to remember DURING the rebuild.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Yeah, ditto that above.
Wanted to add also- sometimes the needle wedges in the seat assembly at a funny angle upon initial put-together. Tap the side of the carb briskly with the handle of a screwdriver a few times and sometimes it will strighten it out without having to rip into the carb again.
