DO I need to rejet my carb?
DO I need to rejet my carb?
I own an 84 TA LG4. I'm going to replace the 305 with a L98 350. I plan on keeping the computer controlled carb and computer. I am going to buy a chip to make up for the extra displacement. My question is, do I HAVE TO rejet the carb (some performance is an acceptable loss if it is not necessary), or will the chip be enough (to make the car run right)??? Thanks for any replies.

in my personal experience, (i did the same)
the primary jets on my 305 carb were 72, edelbrock uses 74 on their carbs for 350, so basically i just had to play only with idle mixture a bit and that was it, never changed the jets. (we're talking NCC q-jet)
as a matter of fact the jets on the original Q-jet that came on my 350 were...guess what??? 68.
couldn't believe my eyes.
and as for the sec, i just kept the same, the reason being my car is no HOT ROD and i have no intentions to visit the tracks other than as a regular espectator, and as far as power as it is i've smoked already a few RICE-BOYS. and other little thing, a full tank gives me 400kms.( mix of city and hwy) i would like to know if in anybody else oppinion is this a good mileage. (just curiosity)
good luck with your proyect.
