Whats the best combo for 91 305 TBI
Whats the best combo for 91 305 TBI
I have a 91 RS 305TBI (completely stock). I plan on replacing the TBI crap with a carb and I was just wanting yalls opinions on what the best carb, intake, distributer combination would be. I'm not trying to make a street beast out of it or anything but I just want more than 170hp to come out of that fine looking machine. I'm also dieing to get rid of that stupid computer which I should be able to after I get rid of that TBI, right? Thanx for yalls help!

I've been researching that same thing myself for a while now, cause I want to swap out my 92 305 tbi. As far as what choice of parts to go with, I can't help you there, but I can tell you what goes into taking out the computer and tbi setup. Obviously, you are gonna need a carb, and a different intake manifold. You are also gonna have to dump your dist. and get a vacuum advance distributor. Since carbs can't handle the fuel pressure that fuel injection requires, you are gonna have to do something there too. You can leave the stock fuel pump in the tank, and use a 3 port mallory fuel pressure regulator, or put a fuel pickup in the tank like the ones that came in older carbureted third gens, and hook it up to an old style mechanical fuel pump. You are also gonna need to either get a trans go shift kit for your torque converter, or make one yourself. I've heard its not that hard, but I don't know how to do it. From what I understand, everything should work fine on the car except the cruise control and the speedo. I've heard that if you leave the computer plugged in, the speedo will still work. This is all I can think of at the moment. Don't take my word for all this though, as I am only relying on my limited knowledge of these cars, and what others have told me.
Good Luck.
Good Luck.
Thanks for the help, I'm not that knowledgable on these cars either, I just go on what people say. I have no idea how to replace the intake and all that. I'm pretty stupid when it comes to auto mechanics so i'll probably have some one do it for me. I just need to figure out the best combo.
