I have seen many people talk about getting cold air into the engine is much better than more but I want to know why people would believe this. To me cold air doesn't matter for anything if you aren't getting enough air into the engine in the first place.
Basicly I just want to know what you guys think.

The issue is the mass of oxygen you get into the cylinders (assuming you're getting the right ratio of gasoline in, vaporized, and mixed as well). Once the filter flows as many cubic feet of air as the carb can suck in, the issue becomes the density of the air - colder air, higher density; higher density, more mass; more mass, more power.
Us high-altitude dudes know this all too well.
That help explain it a little?

I was basicly trying to find out were everyone stood on this topic. I was wondering if anyone knew how much filter it would take to satisfy a 750 carb. I am going to make a custom setup for a cowl induction hood by making a box that will go off the filter box to the cowl and have a little on each side to let hot air excape.
Definatly more air is important. Colder air is nice to be sure, but you'll gain much more power from freeing up the flow.
Don't believe me? go to the track with an open element in one hand in a stock single snorkel in the other. Make a baseline run with the stock aircleaner, but no snorkel attached. Then hook up the stock snorkel that goes to above the headlights for the next run for some cold air. Then ditch it for a 14x3 open element.
I'll guaruntee the open element will get your best MPH.

"More cold air is better"
Yep, no real way around it besides a compromise or the funds to fix the problem.
A single snorkel air cleaner (stock) will not flow the needed amount of air, so more air would be an advantage in the form of an open element filter. Open element filters are fine in lower temps and on highway but in stop and go driving all your getting is hot air so there's a disadvantage. A dual snorkel cleaner also a stock setup is a good compromise between an open element and a single snorkel. More air than a single and cooler air than an open but not as much air as an open. Ram air, as in a hood, gives you more and cooler air than any under the hood filter setup but its turbulent forced air and isn't usually clean being its sucking air at exhaust level. A cowl induction gives fairly cool air and is not turbulent, if you were to box the CAI induction it would be the best setup possible.
I could go on for about an hour but this is long enough.
