What kind of carburetor do I have????
What kind of carburetor do I have????
I've got this Rochester QuadroJET that I pulled off my 82 TransAm before I junked it (long... sad sad story).
Anyway, I was curious if you guys could tell me anything about it?
It originally didn't belong on the engine that was in the 82 T/A.
The carb is not computer controlled at all.
The number on it is..
17059884
Can anyone tell me anything about it?
What kinda car it came off of? How many CFMs? Etc?
Thanks!!
Todd

Well, if it was in the T/A and all the cables hooked up to it OK (throttle cable and trans kickdown cable) then you know it's a Chevy carb. The fuel inlet pointing 90* to the side is another dead giveaway that it's a Chevy carb.
170 prefix means it's a later-style carb with integral choke element although it could be either a hot air style choke or an electric choke.
It's almost certianly an 800 CFM variety. Almost all 170s are. Look around the circumference of the primary venturi (the one cast into the body of the carb- not the little one out on the end of a stalk). Look around it. Is there a "lump" cast into the venturi somewhere? If so, it's an 800 CFM carb. If the venturi is smooth all the way around it's 750 CFM.
That's all I can tell you. I am sure there's a website somewhere that could tell you more based on the numbers but I don't know where it is. I don't do concourse number-matching restorations. I just know how to find stuff that is compatible with an application for general performance use.
