why does my car backfire out of the carb(after engine swap)
why does my car backfire out of the carb(after engine swap)
i don't know a whole lot about carbs. but is it possible that a vac leak can cause this. i know it is not the timing because i have checked this many times.
What kind of carb is it? How is the motor set up?
Usually when it backfires through the carb it's either too lean or the timing is off..
Are you sure the TDC mark is correct?
Does the car run (idle)? If it won't run and it backfires the distributor might be 180* off.
Give me some more info and I might be able to help you out.
Good Luck,
John

acctually i just was working on it and the dist. was 180 degrees out. now it runs. i repainted the entire engine and it looked really good, but now it spit oil all over it and i don't know where it is coming from.
the thing is, is that it ran very well in the garage, but as soon as i got it out it ran like crap. almost like the timing changed itself. did i do something wrong??
