carbed 355 with the 700r4
Hi all it's been almost one year exactly sice my 86ws6 died and I've found a great car!
I'm thinking of buying a 88T/A with the 700r4 and a 305tbi, now some people swear by tbi but I don't want it. What will I need for my carbed 355 import wooper to work with the 700r4, I'm getting a carter carb. Any help would be great guys! SIDETHOUGHT: My mill will be pushing 375 to 400 horses, how fast in the 1/4 can i go with 3.73's with what mods? Thanks to all who reply

Scotty,
For the TBI -> carb swap...
wait.. before I go there, I assume you're ditching the computer?
If yes then continue(if no, GOOD LUCK!)
All you need tranny wise is a switch to engage your TC lockup. You can get one that will do the job automagically, or a manual one, or one that will do either. All available in summit or jegs.
I'm still running without one of these and have had no problems, but some guys swear you'll torch your tranny w/o one.
Non tranny related, you need a non computer distributor.
If you wanna get that awful TBI/TPI, I'd be glad to take it off your hands in exchange for this info. hehe

oh, and BTW, you're getting close to the limits of a stock 700R4 HP and torque wise. you might want to look into a race prepped one.
I think stock they'll do like 450HP and 400Torque(torque is the one that really kills it)

B&M sells a torque converter lockup kit for around $40. I've got that kit in my 87 Camaro with 350/700r4. The kit has a pressure switch that makes the converter lockup only in 4th (overdrive). It also has a manual switch to make the converter stay unlocked in o.d. It only takes about 1hr. to put in, and the only semidifficult part is connecting wires to the fuseblock.

Thanks guys! I found a vac. advance HEI in a 77 nova a few months ago at the pick-n-pull so I'm set there and I'm planning on having the tranny rebuilt so I'm hoping it will live a while. I'll look in to the b&m kit too, I can't wait till I start killing imports again!
Thanks again, scotty
