I don't think my choke is working.
I have the stock LG4 carb. When I get in it first thing in the moring, I always push the accelerator all the was down and then start it. this used to work perfect, the car would start right away and rev up to like 1500 rpms. Now I do the same thing, but it doesn't rev up like its supposed to. it just sits there at 500 rpms and shakes the whole car. I have to step on it to bring the idle up a little bit. this is getting really annoying. Any help would be appreciated.

Probably something's getting sticky/dirty in the linkage. When the engine is overnight-cold go out and take the air cleaner off. Open the throttle manually by hand and watch the choke. It should SNAP closed. If it doesn't the linkage is probably sticky/dirty or the choke element on the pass. side has broken internally. THe first one is usually an easy fix with some carb cleaner and working the linkage. The latter requires drilling out the rivets that hold the choke element in place and replacing the element with a new on ($40 from an auto parts store).

79 Malibu "beater" w/junkyard 400 SBC, tweaked QJet 4bbl, finally a decent set of heads, a few other tricks. A maddening 13.000001 @ 108 on the motor with little traction. No nitrous runs with the new heads yet.
Grandma's old 78 Malibu (33K miles!) soon to have the powertrain from the 79 put in it.
