Cruise Control on computer-ditched cars.

I was just wondering if anyone out there who was running a car without their computer was running the OE cruise control. I have adapated the cable to fit my Holley but I haven't gone through the vaccum lines. The Haynes/Chiltons manuals are lacking in the descriptions. What sensors does the cruise control computer use? I'm assuming atleast the VSS sensor (computer still in car, just few sensors hooked up). Thanks.

I know my '82 had the old speedo cable run govenor, even though it had an ECM, while the '86 uses the ECM via the VSS signal. I'm not sure what year they changed. But, if you've bypassed the ECM, you should be able to adapt the govenor from an older model. Exactly what switches changed, such as the turn signal arm (multi-function lever) or brake pedal switches, I don't know. I just transferred all the '86 pieces over to the '82.

Sorry, I let my govenor system go when I had the donor car hauled away.

Hopefully it will work then because the VSS should still work on my car. Basically the computer is there, however very few sensors are hooked up. Thanks.

I have my VSS diconnected (to get rid of the speed limiter) and my CC still works so I don't think the VSS has anything to do with the CC. I might be different for an older thirdgen though.

Is your speedo cable driven? If soI'll sell you my complete cc system. It is totally mechanical. It even has a vacuum break switch on the brake pedal. Name your price

My CC doesn't work. I'd like it too, but don't know what to look for to see what is not functioning in the system. I have no ECM, VSS on tranny is wired directly to the buffer, not through the ECM harness, as it was originally. I cut off the harness in the engine bay and it took me a month to figure out how to rewire the system so that my speedo would work again. I drove for a month pacing cars and trying to use my RPM gauge to gauge my speed.
