Effects of Spacers on preformance?

A spacer is a great tunning device that can fine tune a carb. Adding a taller spacer will lean the fuel mixture out without rejetting. The design of the spacer has more to do with HP and torque than the height.Adding a spacer with a four hole design will add torque to your engine while a open design spacer will add HP because you increase the plentum volume of the intake. Don't waste your money on a aluminum spacer, they transfer heat to the base of the carb and heat the fuel mixture as it is swept down into the intake.Spend a little extra and get the phenolic spacer.Unlike the aluminum, it does not transfer heat and creates a denser fuel charge.

Now On our Stock Dual plane Manifold, a Open Spacer Would Cost Torque, and Questionably add to High end, Correct ?

A better bet would be a Dual Opening spacer, Right ? or Would a 4 hole style Spacer Be best Yet ?

To be honest, I cannt Recall If Our Stock alluminum intakes are of a Four Hole design, or that of a 2 passage Dual plane. you would think with as many times as ive had that Damn Carb off I would remember, But I swear it evades me.

Thanks for any enlightement You may give

to go in to a little more detail i have a holley intake, i have to use an adapter to bolt a holley carb to it, i also want to run the spacer to keep heat away from the carb, both are open type. the spacer is the high dollar plastic stuff. my concern is i did increase my intake volumn quite a bit doing this and wondered about the preformance increase, or decrease from doing it.

The purpose of a spacer is to fine tune a manifold. Adding an open plenum spacer will provide a little more high end than it would have normally. Adding a 4 hole spacer will give a little more low end torque. Either way, it helps, but it's not a huge differece.
