To Q-jet or not to Q-jet?

After a futile attempt to try to use my original OEM equipment on my 305 to 350 swap, i have decided to get rid of all that junk an go mechanical... and the question come with carb to use.

I have a 1987 camaro, it original had and LG-4 305, and I swapt a ZZ3 built alike engine.

The carburator that most appeals to me is the edelbrock Q-jet M4M 1980-1986 (for chevy trucks). One of the mean reason is that is a quick hook up, and i do like does large secondaries.

Any suggestions?

Also, does anybody knows abou the mallory igntions? I am planing to purchase a

Mallory Comp 9000 unilite electric Distributor and a Mallory Hyfire VI CD Ignition Box.

thanks

mike

I have the 1903 (converted to electric choke) on my van. It runs quite well. The only potential problem area is the secondary lock-out (a small lever that locks out the secondaries when the choke is on) - it may not get out of the way when the engine warms up. The simple solution is to remove it (and then keep your foot out of it when the engine is cold).

I have the 1901 on the 396 (divorced choke). It ran so well out of the box I haven't even tuned it. But, I plan on getting around to that this coming season. I removed the secondary lockout on it, too.

The Edelbrock q-jets are a bit pricey, but good carbs.

I couldn't tell you first-hand about the Mallory equipment, but I've seen a few guys using it with no problem.
