Stalls Cold

I Have an 85 Trans-Am LG4 Auto, When the car is still cold (but has dropped off high idle) it will tend to stall out if i put the pedal to the floor. This only happens when i am pulling out. The car has died a couple times when i gun it. But only when it is cold. Any ideas as how to fix this problem?

The acellerator pump on the carb isn't working properly. You need more fuel shot in when you hit the throttle.

If it only happens cold and goes away when it warms up, your choke probably needs to be adjusted.

Yup, sounds like a real simple choke adjustment. Either more choke, or less pull-off. Stalling is a sign of leaning out when cold. Rich will make it miss, but it will keep running.
I've described how to adjust the choke at least 43x on this board, use the search feature to get the rest of the info you need. Any specific questions, post back.

I just realized another point. There is a short window of time when you will be off teh choke, but the engine will still be too cold to open the secondaries without bogging/stalling. That sounds like what you are describing.
The only thing you can do to eliminate this situation is to take it easier when it's still cold. Don't try to open the secondaries unless your RPMS are up past 2500. Yes this makes for slow pulling out, but then you roll into the throttle and take off just fine. Q-jets will not handle a WOT stab when the intake is still cold from at/near idle. Your other option would be to tighten the choke a bit to keep you on the choke circuit longer...which still keeps the secondaries locked out, as band-aid a fix as you can get, and a very lazy way out (unless you need more choke.)
Personally, i've always removed my secondary lockouts and never had a problem. It's sole purpose is to eliminate the complaint you have. As long as you drive smart when it's cold it works fine. Think of that bog/stall as your engine telling you to be nicer to it when it's warming up. In return, it will be nicer to you by living longer.
