Getting my carb rebuilt, have a few questions
What is an average price for a rebuild on a holley? It's an old style 650DP, mechanical secondaries, spreadbore.
Also, how do carb shops tune the carbs? Do they use an A/F gauge? How much more does it cost to have them tuned or is that included in the rebuild?
Sorry I have been using a q-jet in the past. Please help.

The only way to tune a carb is to do it on the engine the carb will actually be sitting on top of. Every engine watns a little something different in tuning.
A basic rebuild includes nothing more than a thorough cleaning and making sure all the mechanical parts and systems of the carb work correctly. Some rebuilds they will at least check to make sure the jets are what came in the carb originally, but not usually becuase that's not always easy for them to figure out. They should, however, notify you if they find somthing obviously wrong- like mismatched jet pairs and other things that would obviously indicate the carb had been monkeyed with.
If you are concerned about the calibration of your particular carb you can always call Holley tech support and they will tell you what jets, power valve, accelerator pump cam, etc. came in your carb origianlly. That'll give you a baseline to work from and you can tune from there.
