attn: jester ( carb bonnet test)

just thought i'd let you know we did some testing with a few different bonnets. the worst one was the k/n bonnet. the air was so turbulent the motor couldn't make it past 4900 rpm. it only made 521 ft lb and 443hp. the next bonnet was much better. it made 709ft lb and 744hp but would'nt run above 5500 rpm. this one was the old ati bonnet which they don't sell anymore. they sell the k/n style now(go figure).the best one came from carb shop. it made 747ft lb and 811hp. ran cleanly to 6000 rpm. the motor we used is a cast piston 454 W/perf.rpm,stock oval ports, 252 at.050 roller cam and a d-3m procharger putting out 13lbs of boost. i know this is probably more power than your trying to make so the differences would'nt be so wide spread but it gives you somewhere to start. you've got to have the correct power adder(s), carb/fuel system, and air bonnet to make it all come together and run right. hope this helps you out some. kevin.
