K&N or not?

Ok I have a 4-gen hood for my car and I am wondering if I put the hood on is a K&N 4in. open element with a new X-treme lid worth the money and about how much would it help? I already plan on putting the hood on but I would like to know if K&N is the best choice. Thanks!

I hav 1984 Z28 Camaro 305 H.O. It also has a 5-speed. It had a 3.73 posi rear-end but that had to be taken out due to some breackage of a couple of teeth. so I am currently looking for a *posi unit and 4.10 gears*.

Projects for the future are: I have a 4 gen SS hood scoop to put on my car and when I get that complete I plan On getting a K&N open element and Xtreme filter lid.

By the way My little stock 305 runs 14.5 @ 96mph on the 1/4 mile. I think thats pretty good for a stock 305.

I have heard a lot about the k&n lids. i know that there are some posts that deal with the air flow and hood clearance. I would definately go for the xtreme lid of you are going to have a different hood on there. With the stock hood there isn't enough clearance for it to make a difference.
Check the other posts and I hope you can find your answers.
