carb
Ok i have a '85 fb 305. I don't have the money to get a 350(or I would) and i just wanted to ask is it worth my money to spend it on replacing the carb I have. My friend said that if I do with a carb I should get a non computer controlled one for better performance. Also the stock carb on there is on it's last leg I think, it has been retooled once and performance still sucks. So guys what is a good carb to get? And a good place to shop around for it.

Well, you'll get 2 types of people in this board. Edelbrock guys and Holley guys. Edelbrock sells a stock style 'Quadrajet' carburetor that bolts directly onto the intake manifold.
Holley makes a really good carburetor and is set up richer than most other carbs available. This really makes good torque & hp. I'm biased so I'd say Holley.
And to swap a Non Computer Controlled (Non CC) Carburetor, you need to invest in a Vacuum Advance Distributor, the carb and distributor go hand in hand.

Actually there are three types of people: Holley, q-jet (stock or Edelbrock), and square-bore 1400-series Edelbrock (old AFB style).
Holleys and the square-bore Edelbrock are cheap. However, they will not bolt up to your stock manifold without an adapter - adapters stink, ruin performance, and raise the carb effective height. If you go with one of those, your best bet would be to get an intake to which it will bolt directly. I also wouldn't say Holleys run richer; that's tuning, not design. And, running rich doesn't give you torque or horsepower. It will eventually give you fouled plugs.
Edelbrock q-jets are mechanical only, not available in CC style. They are almost twice the cost of a Holley or 1400-series Edelbrock. The problems that existed in q-jets since 1966 were designed out when Edelbrock took over the q-jet.
What makes you think your carb is on its last leg? I've said it many times before, I'll say it again: carbs are blamed for all sorts of problems that a set of plugs will easily fix. Okay, maybe a cap & rotor, plug wires, occasionally a coil, even pickup module.
The ugly truth is you have to do a lot of other things to an engine before the q-jet can't do its job anymore. Those things involve big cams, big heads, big headers, etc., etc., etc. However, big street performance is not part of the equation.
Your performance problems reside in the lame cam, exhaust and heads put on 305's, not the carb. If you have the LG4 (VIN code H), then low compression is also a culprit.

Ok thanks and yeah i have the vin G code. Well since I have had the plugs and wires replaced i know it isn't them. And the only problem that I am getting now in my car stalls out(bad) when you try to get on the gas(or try to accelerate real slow, like backing up 1/6 times the car will stall). I was only asking about the carb since I am sorta new to trying to "supe" my car up and most people say if the car is choking up then it is a carb problem.. I never heard about the low compression problem on my engine. Ok since it might be the carb what would money be spent better on?

I agree 100% with five7kid. I have a Q-jet on my setup pushing around 400HP, and have for several years with minimal problems. I have done a ton of mods to it though on the secondary side. You have room to play with your q-jet and your 305 for a while provided it is in a good rebuilt state. Q-jets are very touchy and need alot of attention to stay running at their peak though. Other things that you could do would be headers, intake manifold, exhaust or maybe a chip for your prom. Those will swap to a 350 if you ever go that route.
