air intake question

I am running a stock air intake and filter housing right now on a 305 TBI. I have heard that these are sub-standard compared to the cars needs. Do you have any suggestions to solve this problem? I have made a ram air type setup, but I never use it due to rain and dirt. It is the type with the dryer vent hose running through the fenders and out under the nose. I would appriciate any suggestions to make this work well.

I wish I had my scanner out of storage so I could post some pics. I have an L69 aircleaner with homemade ram air and it works really well. Get yourself a K&N filter and will you will feel a difference. Any way you can get colder air to your engine will help a lot. Try to find a dual intake L69 aircleaner, it helps things quit a bit too. Check for dupolicated ones in the back of Super Chevy or CHP magazine for pretty cheap.
