im doing bout the same thing as you, i have an 83 CFI Z28, stock, and i am getting rid of the crap injection system on mine, ive had edelbrock perfomer carb, the 750, on a 350 i had in the nova i used to have and it didnt seem to give as much power and tunablity as my friends holley he had on his camaro. we had basically the same engines both with performer RPM's and same cam grids with stock heads, his car was a little faster than mine most the time. my carb seemed to lack upstairs tho vs. his 650 double pumper, ive been told by lots of people that holley is the way to go and i'd agree from what ive seen. as for the weiland i dont know anyone that has run them but i know the RPM's do a good job for lots of people i know running them. right now ive got a 750 vacuum secondary holley and looking for a used RPM for my conversion, i think that the 750 might be a little much for my 305 but im not sure and dont matter to me cause i plan on putting a 350 in ASAP

You don't need a DP for that 305, it will just be wasting gas. I would go with the RPM intake and a holley 600. I think the actual max cfm that a 305 can effectively use is somewhere around 560something.
Weiand is a division of Holley, haven't heard anything about their stuff except for intakes and superchargers.
I have a quadrajunk as well and no surprise here it is running like crap. I am actually searching for a 350 to put in ASAP cause I think the 305 is about to die.(sounds no one at the garage I work on my car at can ID)
Anyways good luck on whatever you decide to do.

Im about to do the same thing. Im gonna use a Weiand Stealth manifold ($106 in Summit), and a Holley 1850 600 cfm. carb (appx.$210 in Summit). You can't really go wrong with Edelbrock or Holley, both are good quality carbs. But I've heard a lot of good stuff about Weiand. You might even wanna give Carter some consideration, you dont see them much anymore, so it would be unique. Irreguardless of what brands you use, once you get rid of the computer and the emissions system, you'll notice a difference.

The performer RPm is the best manifold out there IMO it has a good balance of low mid and high RPM power. And it is perfect for you guys who plan on switching to a 350 in the future. As for the carb go with a 750 if you also plan on going to a 350 in the future. overcarbing the 305 won't hurt it at all and don't listen to the fairy tales about it getting poor gas mileage just because it flows more air.

Oh yeah I have an edelbrock and it is a good carb. Carter is the exact same as Edelbrock. edelbrock bought the rights to the Carter design.

1983Z28 350w/ edelbrock performer RPM power package with 64cc aluminum heads, dynomax shorty headers, 700R-4 with shift kit, 750cfm carb, edelbrock 3" exhaust system, ASCD SS hood, 16" IROC rims.

future mods:
completely done over suspension, black paint with flames, Hurst shifter, dakota digital gauge package, procharger supercharger.

A DP carb is to much for your 305. A 600 cfm vac. secondaries from Holley would be a good choice. Edelbrock Performer intakes are the way to go.
