Scam in Progress... anyone wants to have some fun?

A couple of days ago, I received this email. It is obviously one of the foreign scam artists that have been screwing around lately. Here it is...

Hello,
My Name is Aisha, i Live in US (Idaho) but I am currently based in UK for an Organisation Programme with my family. However,I came across your classified ad and I am really interested in purchasing the CAR/PART you put up for sale as a birthday presents for somone precious to me. Please fill me on the present condition of the CAR/PART and also let me know the rock bottom price at which you wish to sell and the pictures if any, i hope you accept certified cashier's check? I look foward to hearing from you and also look forward to doing buisness with you.
Best regards,
Aisha.
--

I don't have a car for sale. I had a dashpad, and an air cleaner up for sale, and they send this generic email. Anyways, I decided to play along....

No problem. I think you mean the 89 IROC that I have for sale correct? It has a 12 bolt rear, fresh 355 TPI motor, and T56 6 speed Transmission. Lots of extras and upgrades. I've spent about $8500 since I bought the car a year and a half ago. I'm asking $5600 for it though. Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks,
Angel

Heres the reply I just received...

Angel, thanks alot for your fast response to my inquiry, i am glad to hear the car is still available for sale and in good working condition too. I am really interested in buying it as a birthday present for someone precious to me, and your rock bottom price is okay with me.

I hope to hear from you asap for the purchase of the car, thanks again for your time, effort and understanding.

Aisha.

Heres what I wrote back...

Sure, no problem. Let me know how you want to handle the payment.

Thanks,
Angel

Now obviously, I'm gonna receive a fake cashiers check. I was thinking of framing it....its kind of cool to have... a fake check for $5600 with my name on it.

Anyway, it really pisses me off how people try to scam others from their money and they get away with it. Thats the only reason why I want to play along, I'm thinking I could atleast give this person a bad day when I tell them I don't feel like shipping the car, or something stupid like that....

Anyone have any ideas?

First....i would make sure that it is a scam and then if it is, try to cash it. maybe you will be one of the lucky people who get a check from a retarded scamer that is actually worth something....hehe

It seems like most of these scams are from over seas. I would never sell anything over seas unless I recognize the person as a member on Thirdgen or any other respected site.

Badasscamaro, if they don't have any genuine interest in buying the car (as you can tell from the email) there is no reason why they would send a real cashiers check. They aren't going to gain anything, but risk losing their money.

As far as selling overseas, I take it on a case by case basis. Some people don't seem like you can communicate very well with by their email responses, those I wouldn't ship to. Otherwise, I am cautious, but I would go ahead with it if there is no one interested within the US. I don't trust someone just because they are a Thirdgen.org member. Theres a lot of fishy stuff going on with TGO members as well, look through the posts here on the classifieds feedback board.

To any of you guys that want the email, here it is...
aisha_marey@outgun.com

Have fun!!! Oh, and let us know what happens if you do email Aisha.

By the way, I haven't heard from Aisha since I posted this.
I was getting excited about getting my fake check too!

two great sites for scambaiting fun ! 1. www.419eater.com 2. http://ebolamonkeyman.com scambaiting rules and try to be more outrageous every time you run into a scammer, at the most ,it will cost them money ,at the least you might prevent someone else from getting ripped off.

I too got something very similar. I do still have the fake check. Framing it would be a good idea. >

I recieved the same kind of thing for a classified ad I on one of my basses. They contacted me saying they wanted to purchase it and where having a third party send the check, and that I should send the difference along with the bass. Knowing it was a hoax I figured i'd play along and send my address and told him to come on with it. A week and a half later or so I recieved a check for almost 10K that was printed out as a certified check from a dairy farm in the midwest.. but the check was sent from like India somewhere or something. I still have the check someone, got a good laugh out of it too.

Not to be a jerk, but I wouldnt even sell/buy a car off here. Not even telephone. I have to physically see the person up in my face before we make the deal.

I buy all kinds of stuff off of here. If the the items are within 500 miles I just drive there and pick them up. I bought my 90 off here. A buddy and I drove 400 miles south to meet the lady halfway at a truckstop. It seemed kinda fishy at the time but when I got home and the title went thru DOT with flyying colors, I just laughed my *** off.

Sooo if it's something you really want it is worth driveing to go get.

Lots of people on this board have seen my car. I took it to both thirdgen fest and the midwest fbody meet this year.

Scam in Progress

Just got an e mail very similar, wanting to buy a set of wheel emblems I had posted for $55. Mr. Vivan Parker at scinty@blackplanet.com was going to send me a check for $3500 to hold till it clears then he would have someone pick up the parts and the diference in money. I guess there is a sucker born every minute but he'd have to be pretty stupid to fall for that.

What someone should do is get a model thirdgen one of those match box type ones and upgrade that and when they contact you trying to buy it send them that little thing.. I saw it down with a powerbook they wrote powerbook on a white binder and all this other stuff
