Got ripped off by a board member "pate"

Posted an add on the wanted section of the message board for an steering wheel and was contacted via private message by board member. Anyways he wanted to do a trade, so I traded him 7 blu ray movies and like 8 PS3 games for the steering wheel and paid to have them shipped to him. I used tracking confirmation and he thanked me for the movies and said the steering wheel was shipped on 3/28. I still haven't received the steering wheel and he will not reply to any of my attempts to contact him. I have tried to contact several times over the past week. I think I have given him adequate time and opportunities to clear this up if he isn't ripping me. At what point do I name him on here?

I would agree, and the fact that he does not respond to my inquiry is especially troubling. I just hate to have to smear someone... maybe he is out of town or something and the steering wheel got lost in the mail? Yeah the chances of both of those things happening simultaneously, is extremely small.

Correction... it was only 6 PS3 games and 7 movies. Don't know what the wheel was made of. I never got it!!

Doesn't look good man. You can always apologize if it turns out not to be the case.

Re: Got ripped off by a board member!

The trade for games/movies is especially troubling. If you'd paid him via paypal or credit card, you would have the option to dispute the payment. However, he now has an easy to pawn/sell asset that is entirely untraceable and irretrievable. I run an electronics dept, and those are the things that get stolen most often because they are as close to cash as it gets. I'd post his name here to keep him from doing this to anyone else.

If he has a legit side to the story, he can respond and satisfy the problem. If not, you can at least keep others from suffering the same fate.

Yes, you are correct. They guy has 153 posts on here so I thought that that would lend him some credence. I just sent him this message.

It is very sad that it has come to this, but I have started a thread on the message board in regards to you not sending me my steering wheel and not responding to my messages. As of right now I have not released your name, I am leaving a window of opportunity for you to make this right. Please contact me ASAP as I will release your name on the board tomorrow if I do not hear from you, so no one else will be taken advantage of. I feel I have given you ample time to ship the steering wheel and been more than fair in our agreement.

Most of the time I'd also call this a fib. But considering two of my neighbors lost their houses a few days ago from downed trees, I'm not as quick to discount this excuse as usual...

UPDATE

So I waited a week, then he sent this message last Friday 4/29

did u get the steering wheel yet?

I did not receive the wheel but thought I would give him an additional week given his supposed situation, and replied with this message.

Did you ship out the wheel? Tracking number please. Thanks

I haven't heard anything from him since then, so today I sent him another message.

Still no steering wheel after 2 additional weeks! I I can only assume that you won't disclose the tracking number which I have repeatedly requested because you never shipped the steering wheel. If I don't have some evidence by tomorrow that the wheel has been sent (at least a tracking number), I will release your name to the board on the classified feedback section. Here is the link to the thread.

Re: Got ripped off by a board member!

I just had an encounter with a seller here... I clearly stated before I made my purchase ($300 set of louvers) that it had to be shipped in a manner that would allow me to have a tracking number. he agreed.

It took him three weeks to ship them, made every excuse in the world why they hadn't been shipped, said they were shipped monday, gave me an partial tracking number on Wednesday (10 digits... like that helps) and finally got the full number to me on thursday, and it showed it the louvers weren't shipped until that same day. So much for Monday.

I wasn't happy, but at least they are on the way. tracking numbers are good for legit sellers and buyers alike, everybody should insist on them

Re: Got ripped off by a board member!

UPDATE:

Seller: man for some reason it was returned back to me yesterday? can u confirm that address one more time? and im sorry i havent been on here much things have been crazy. im not trying to srew u. and like i said if u found another wheel then i send u your movies and games back or i can send u a money order? but i do need u to confirm ur address please.

My response:

XXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXX, WI

...Same address as you verified the first time.

SEnd Tracking information this time so I can track what is going on with the package! A tracking number would really give a lot more credibility to your story if we could see evidence that the package was sent out and then returned to you. If you would like to send the old tracking number so I can see what the error might have been, I would be happy to look over it.

Your just as well off to send me the steering wheel as anything else, as they will be sent to the same address. I still want the steering wheel still though, after all that is why we brokered this deal in the first place! Send me out the tracking number... there is really no reason for you not to, unless of course you are scamming me. I am a patient man, but don't like being jerked around either. It's looking more and more like I am. Prove me and the many other board members watching this situation unfold wrong.

Re: Got ripped off by a board member!

i think its about time you say his name for us all to know. if he proves you wrong then he proves you wrong. if he dosent then EVERYONE will know. and i dont think people wanna deal with this guy anyway, who wants to get jerked around like that? even if he gives you your wheel, i wouldnt feel comfortable dealing with him. save us all the trouble... its time to name names.

Yeah give the name. Credibility has been ruined already, so we need to prevent future sales by this person.

Sucks that people have to be dishonest and unreliable. I bought some parts off a guy local and we were going to do a trade for more parts, never got a call, whats a call?
Pick up the phone and say, hey I changed my mind. S**t. Or Don't have the time..

Any way sorry to hear you had this happen to you, I would sure like to know his handle!

Too many stories, it was evident from the time he claimed to ship it on 3/28 that you were just getting the run around. The run around is merely continuing. I just hope that this person hasn't been selling to other unsuspecting members while you have been patient.

Best wishes to you, sorry you have to go through this.

Re: Got ripped off by a board member!

Well the OP was retaining dignity, and giving the person a second chance. It is clear from his updates, that the guy is just giving him the run around, unintentionally or not, and has at this point stolen from him.
I suggest
- the board member's name be released,
- his account be banned permanently
- his IP to be traced back to a provider, which in essence will reveal his customer information, which can be used to make a police report.

Your right. He sent me this message on Tuesday...

man i am so sorry for all this mess. im not tryinh to screw u. it was totaly my fault on messing up your address. ill get right back with u on the tracking number. and again im very sorry.

Well it's now Saturday and I haven't heard anything so I think the time has come (which is overdue) to release the user name which is "pate"

Hopefully this will avoid someone else going through the same BS. If I ever do receive anything from "pate" I will let you all know. Very sad to think someone would compromise their integrity for some lousy video games and movies.

What year steering wheel do you need? I have a friend that has an 87 z28 wheel. I was ripped off in a similar manner when i was deployed to the Middle East and I was unable to do anything about it. I learned that even if Paypal agrees you will not get your money if the person closes his account.

Re: Got ripped off by a board member "pate"

Just do a search on his screen name and open a thread he has posted in and you will see he has been suspended.

I only kept up with this and reported it, the real thanks goes to JT who does a tremendous amount of work to make this site a success.

Still, it's terrible that there are so many con-artists around. Just keep on posting about your experiences and giving iTrader feedback everyone and maybe we can limit these thieves.

Best wishes to you all.

Re: Got ripped off by a board member "pate"

not to blame the victim, but if you look at pate's trader rating, he has a -1. you probably should have steered clear from the beginning

What stops him from making a different name and ripping someone else off...Id rather him not be suspended.

Re: Got ripped off by a board member "pate"

:sigh: You can't please everyone. If he isn't suspended you get "why is TGO allowing him to stay?" You suspend him and you get, "well now he'll just come back."

I'll say it again, do your homework on the person you intend to buy from. For those that do deals, leave feedback! You don't do either one and you get what you deserve. If a suspended/banned seller is thought to have come back report them so it can be looked into.

"You" being figurative.

I got ya formula. Sorry for stating as as I said. I have left feedback for every deal I have done. I wish people would have always left me feedback!

Re: Got ripped off by a board member "pate"

In truth I get you, too. It's the nature of the beast, there are a lot of people out there that are just out and out thieves. There's really only so much that can be done to stop them. But, for all of the members that leave plenty of feedback (like yourself) it will at least make a dent (even if small) if people will then do the necessary research on whom they buy from or sell to.

Best wishes to you!

Re: Got ripped off by a board member "pate"

I ran across this thread while doing a full open search for a particular steering wheel. I've been scammed by two people on here since I've been a member. The last guy is the reason I have negative one (-1) trader rating. What was his city and state you mailed the games to? I am wondering two things;
1. If it is the same person.
2. If we can create a sticky list of known bad mailing address in the classifieds boards. I still have my two guys names and address(s). It would be easy to make a new address, but more difficult to make a new mailing address.
