Convertible Schematic Sheets

I was cleaning out the 89 convertible for the winter and found some schematics in a binder underneath the rear seat. I assume they belonged to the previous owner, since the pages listed are for a "1991.5" car, but mine is a 1989 RS. Anyone else come across anything like this? It seems to be a complete set of the changes done to a convertible. Here is an example.

you need to resize the image to make it smaller.

if resizing it ruins the image quality so that you cant read it, PM me and i'll give you a email address to send it to... i can post it online if needed.

Here we go again. The original file size has a lot more detail. It's also about a meg per picture. with 40 pictures total.

Since I keep hearing about all the changes made to late model 3rds from ASC alone, anything older then 1990 that anyone comes across from ASC, I too am anxious to see!

Processed images

R4Tek, you did a great job scanning the hard copy, the TIFs have a lot of detail. Since I work in the publishing industry, I took the opportunity to process the TIFs into high quality JPGs and recompile the layout and design. The 8.5x11 200 dpi JPGs are about 350k each. I'd like to email them back to you for redistribution, or, if someone has an extra 10 megs free space on a server, let me know. I'll also compile all the images into a PDF book. Here's a sample page in much lower quality 72 dpi 9x6.

R4Tek,

There's some images out of sequence, would appreciate if you could check if a couple were missed, so I could complete work on the set and compile them into a PDF book.

I have the JPEGs in four zip files, about five megs each. I'll send them individually to your email address. The combined PDF would be too large to email.

I got a copy via my TopsonLine top as well. Most of you may have seen the 8 hour install thread? I'm getting to the stage where the top should be getting put on in a matter of days, say this weekend?!? The glue was an issue but the $20 general adhesive 3M stuff I did buy, NAPA tells me is their best and should work....will give it a go and also try the number of Hughes and 3M products listed in those instructions included. I should add, a similar, but brief copy exists in the Chilton manuals for Firebirds, at leasts, in the same year ranges

One thing I'm not too clear on is the hinge mounts for the trunk below the deck... can't visually locate how to remove to repair...needed to move the trunk back in proper place, avoiding a body shop fee

New Top!

Bill,

I'm glad to hear you are finally getting around to doing your top!

I seem to remember one of the guys on here who did their own really liked the glue he used a lot - Gorilla Glue. I've never tried it but I do remember that he was very high on it.

FYI,

These are called "PAD"s - Production Assembly Documents - and it is like an instruction manual for building a car, or in this case, converting one. I used to work at GM in the service parts division - we used those books to explain to dealers how to install replacement parts, and also to try to figure out the part numbers that were originally used.

pretty cool that you have one, and believe it or not, as far as GM goes, at least the division I was in, only had 1 book - for 70 people to share - and it was getting pretty tattered.

I remember one time I had a dealer complaining about the seam sealer on the inside of a pickup truck bed - he said it looked like someone stuck their finger in the sealer and wiped the excess off with their finger. I pulled the PAD document and faxed it to him - the instructions were to "use tool#j-xxxx, or finger to wipe excess sealer from seam" - it had a picture of a dude running his finger down the seam!

If it's not too much trouble for someone to host or email me the PDF, I'd really appreciate it!
