Re: Your Convertibles
I just picked this up north of Chicago. Drove it home, 850 miles, from Chicago to Maryland. Bought the car yesterday, got 10 minutes down the road, and the SES light came on. What a feeling, only 840 miles left to get home! Was a fun trip, though, despite the constant lights, and the car ran flawlessly.

I hated the rims at first, but they are really growing on me. I have a very nice set of 87 IROC rims I had planned on putting on it, but I may leave it alone for a while.

Re: Your Convertibles
Here's my convertable.
It's a 92 RS, 305, Auto.
The pictures don't quite do it justice, as the look like it's blue or black, but it's really a very dark green.
I picked up in AZ in October with 48,300 miles and drove it back to San Diego with out a problem. The previous owner's husband had bought it in '99 and put about 3,000 miles on it. He passed away and she wanted to get rid of it, so I got it for a really good price. I've had the front end gone through - it needed a little work since it had been sitting for so long. Needs tires, but that will wait a bit. The ones on it have 300 miles, but are almost 10 years old - and a little flat spotted from sitting for so long.
But, she's in immaculate shape and fun to drive - especially with the top down!!

Re: Your Convertibles
Hey all. I just joined the forum a couple of months ago. You all have some beautiful verts. I hope to get mine up to par with some of yours some day. I bought it in November & I've done the normal stuff to it (changed coolant, coolant hoses, thermostat, oil and filter, fuel filter, plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor). Here's my 92 TA vert LB9 305 A/T:

Re: Your Convertibles
Thanks. I haven't changed much yet but it's a work in progress. Two big steps I want to take are get rid of the tan top and tan interior and I also want to replace those terrible wheels. I want some five spokes. I'm just not sure what five spokes yet.

Re: Your Convertibles
Here is a pic taken the other day here in Colorado. Owned the car for seven years and is a daily driver. Originally an Arizona car (bought it from my brother and I am third owner), rebuilt the engine and trans when I first got it and just recently replaced the front windshield and new soft top with real glass window along with brakes.
Drove out to Boise in Oct then down to Phoenix in Nov & Dec and back to Colorado late last year no problems. No leaks or oil drips and the few SES lights I have gotten I take care of right away, I have perhaps a little over $5500 in all the years I have owned it and the TPI blueprinted engine runs great and as you see am able to drive it anywhere...

Re: Your Convertibles
I am very pleased with this IROC. Though it still has that crappy peeling original paint I plan to perhaps paint it during this year. It is well optioned and still handles great with only a few squeaks and rattles over only the roughest roads-it is surprisingly quiet given it is a convertible and its age...No rust whatsoever so it will be a pretty straight forward strip, disassemble, prime, wetsand, paint, buff, re-assemble, and enjoy. I have a couple other projects ahead of the IROC so it is just awaiting its turn...

Re: Your Convertibles
I have a 89 Iroc convertible. Having an issue with two ítems, first I had a new top installed now the rear latch does not close and the right side of the tornnou cover will not close. Also I would like to get the trunk lite to work it seems that there is piece missing to connect the bulb to the switch. Any help would be great.

Re: Your Convertibles
The guy Whole installed the new top said there's nothing that he can do but maybe extend the spike piece so it will latch. I think that if does that it won't be tight fit.

Re: Your Convertibles
soooo if he did get the wrong size would he have to replace it or can he just switch the spike? because ive had mine for quite some time about 10 months but havnt driven it because of tags and some other stuff and i noticed that the top wont lock and ive been wondering why.

Re: Your Convertibles
Ridecool,
If it has been ten months since you have had your top installed then getting your installer to go back and fix things might not be an option.
My installer-who I have used and known for years did let me know that the two sizes of tops is for the width (side to side) and does not affect the front to back. What needs to get done is to unlatch the top at the front and then latch the top at the back (spike/pin latch) then at the front header bow it must be unglued and readjusted at the front bow-just make sure that when you reattach/re-glue the top to the front header that it is still smooth and not too tight so the front latches with no problems.
As for the tonneau mine is a manual latch...but I know if you loosen to bolts you can adjust the latch a little. As far the rear light, hit the parts yard and I am sure you will find what you need. Let us know how it all goes.

Re: Your Convertibles
My solution when closing the tonneau is to start with the passenger side, pull slightly towards the outside of the car, and it perfectly snaps right into place. As far as the plastic that is obstructing the latch, I assume it is there as a sound/vibration damper, perhaps? The driver side is not warped/bent.

Look at you lolvtec! Is that Mustang drop top yours as well? Both look great. I am posting a pic of my 65 Mustang that I have owned for nearly forty years and you will notice in the pic with my frozen IROC there is an old red pickup parked in front of the camaro.
I have enjoyed building many cars over the years and do not suscribe to the notion of being a chevy, ford or mopar guy. I have all three brand in my garage now and have owned rebuilt a few japanese, and european cars as well. Keeping em running and enjoying them is what it's all about for me!

Re: Your Convertibles
Yea I had a 1969 Mercedes 300 SEL 6.3 that was an absolute beast, a 60's Jaguar and quite a few Japanese cars-Couple of 280Z's, RX-7 and a Miata, couple of Volkswagens.
I have attched a couple of pics of my old 66 pickup-Big Red along with an pic of my 58 Chevy that my family has owned since new in 58 and I drove in HS back in the early seventies-building it into a streetrod and the Jasper IROC Z engine that is for the old Chevy that I buffed and polished up and it has a 5-speed. You will see underneath the car cover a hint of my other Mustang, a 66 GT. Wish I had more time and money to work on my projects-this economy has hit me hard...

Seems as if the old truck pic just doesn't want to load-sorry
