I just got my sail panels back from the upholstry guys and thought about adding some interior lighting by poppin in a light on each panel. Ideas? Recommendataions? thanks

 

Asc finally did this in '91 or '92 I believe. What i did was remove the ashtray in back of the center console and put a light in there. This way I didn't alter the panels on the car (which are very expensive to replace).

 

Zedder1990, Where did you tie into the wiring for the light in your console. Putting a light there was an EXCELLENT Idea!

My 92 has lights in the sail panels, and I believe 91's do as well. They definatley come in handy!

Any pics of 92 lights in panels? Also, what light was used to replace ashtray? I need to do something. I have already upgraded rearviw mirror with map lights that I tied in with the "dome" lighting.

 

There ya go, best I have. Took that when I put the seats in a while ago.

 

I went to a junkyard and picked up a couple of rear hatch lights(I believe these are the same ones they use on the '92 sail panels).I had an extra under dash panel that I cut up to fill the area once the ashtray was removed. I then cut an appropriate sizedhole in that piece of plastic and mounted the light in it. I ran wires up underneath the dash near the fuse box and spliced into the wiring for the rear view mirror lights(orange and white wires on my'90).Now the backseat light functions with the rest of the interior lights.

Your trunk doesent have a light? Every one Ive seen including mine has had one in the factory location just like any other thirdgen.

 

no light at all...I am not the original owner, so who knows what could have happened. where is "factory location"?

 

The factory location is right in the center of the plastic rear trim piece - the one that covers the entire rear section of the car. Are you sure there is not a light there? It would seem pretty unique if you did not have it there. I've not seen those for sale individually on ebay but they should not be that hard to come up with... Even if the light itself were not in place I would be surprised if you did not have the wiring already run to the location.

 

My 89 vert doesnt have the lights, but I have a 92 vert parts car
that does, I was going to swap them into my 89.
they look similar to hte rear panel lights

A suggestion for you would be to find 2 similar lights (I would look at stock rear trunk panel lights for a third gen)

Or go to the Boneyard and just get 2 similar lights that that will pop in a hole.

then all ya got to do is cut a hole drop the lights in and tie it into the interior lights. (should look good)

Me and my friend both have matching 91 Convertible RS's and they both have lights in the rear sail panels. So i do believe 91/92 did. Although this is the first time i learned that some years didn't.

 

I took zedder 1990's idea about putting a light in the console where the ashtray is and went on a quest for the "perfect light". I found the light(s) out of a 96 dodge van. The black textured trim matches perfectly, its aircraft style,and fit with minimal dremmeling. It looks great...no pics yet. Anyway, if anybody is serious about doing this, send me a pm and I'll send you a light. I went back to the boneyard and pulled out the remaining two.It will be a couple of weeks til you get it though...going on vacation.

 

Later '91's and 92's had them. Early production '91's did not. Mine does not.

Maybe it's because mine aren't leather, but they don't look like that. They do not have that stripe.

On another note, if the price doesn' get to high on those, I'd recommend that someone ****** them. Anyone. They're getting really hard to find...at a decent price, anyway
