wiring mystery in trunk
I found where my trunk light is supposed to be. Got a hatch light, hooked it up and...nothing. But, when I jumped another two prong connecter hangin around in trunk, it went on. There is a rectangular hole to the left of the hatch grasp with nothing there. What is supposed to be there and would that plug into the other two prong connecter? Also, I have a wide rectangular black connecter with a black/yellow wire and black wire (looks like it would hold a fuse or something) that is not connected. What is that? Last problem, promise, took out center brake light to check bulbs...it was not connected and cannot find where to hook it up to. I have the whole trunk torn apart!

The black contactor is the hatch contact assy. for the high level stop light (on trunk lid). It should contact another contact assy. just to the left of the truck hatch pull down actuator.
The trunk light should have an orange wire (power) and a white wire running to the light switch. From the light switch a black wire should run to ground.

wiring mess
thank you for the black connecter mystery. got that working now. I have it temporarily rigged up. Is that a standard connecter I can get at a parts store? Any idea on if I am missing a switch to activate the trunk light?

Unfortunately I doubt very much that an auto parts store would have the hatch contactor assy for the stop light. You will likely need to try Chevy.
There should be a slider switch just to the left of the cargo compt. light. This switch should have a white wire coming from light and a black wire going to ground attached to it.

rear hatch light switch
Went to the boneyard and found a great switch for the trunk/hatch light. Its a spring clipped black rocker panel switch that came out of the dash of a 93 pontiac transport. I had to dremel maybe 1/4 inch to make it fit, but it looks terrific and works great. Also I dont have any bolts and/or screws to hold the plastic trunk liner pieces in place. What do I need? thanks

I have never had the stowage compartment out of the trunk so I am not too familiar about it exactly is attached. I have only had the spare tire and rear panel out.
For the most part the three panels seem to be attached together by 4 large nylon screws. The holes for these should be pretty obvious as they are pretty big. Other than these the only other screws seem to be two small self taping screws through the top of the rear panel. One is near the high level stop light contactor the other near the pull down actuator. They are marked in the picture below.
