Educate me on how the top works
I just bought an '89 IROC vert, and need to go about repairing the top. When I hit the switch in the center console, I hear a popping noise, but nothing ever happens. I have to reach down inside the drivers side sail panel to push on a cable to release the tonneau cover. After that, I have to fold down the back seat and pull a cotter pin to release the back of the top. After that I can pull the back of the top up, lift up the tonneau, put the top down and close the tonneau.
Since I've never seen or used a third gen top before this, I have no idea on how this process is supposed to work. Am I close, or WAY off? And if so, what parts do I need to make it work right. Any help is appreciated.

You're supposed to pull the cable first I'm pretty sure. It should release the top from the tonneau, shouldnt have to lower the seats and mess with the pin. It may need some adjustment there to work, its not the best design and it does bind some. Then you can lift the rear of the top up and pop the tonneau with the switch on the console.
Put the side windows down some before you do any of that. There's a rod or two up front that you can bend if you dont.

So that switch is supposed to release both the tonneau and the back of the top? What kind of parts am I gonna need to get this thing back in working order?
