Convertible Top Rear Latch Question

Just picked up a 1988 IROC convertible with 37,000 original miles.
Was driving it home from Denver after the purchase and had a problem with the back(rear) of the top popping up.
To make a long story short, my friend messed around with the cotter pin or large jesus clip that holds down the post on the rear of the car, and ended up pulling it off
Can't seem to get it back on correctly, as I never had a chance to see how it goes on correctly I was wondering if anyone has a picture or can describe how to put that clip back on?

That picture looked like mine...back in the day... I had to do a doubletake as it appears from a Firebird and not a Camaro due to the spoiler. I have cloth vs. tan leather too, bummer

I need to add this I think... I bought cable lube esp. for that cable as it will pull to release but doesn't return back and has to be pulled manually, meaning there is no spring action to it any longer. What works?
Thanks
BILL
