Bubble top at speed...

Hey Everyone,
I have a problem with my 91 RS and I was wondering if its actually a problem, or if it is just the way the car is. My convertible top bubbles up while im driving. I guess the pressure in the cabin pushes up on the top and presto... VW Bettle. Is this what happens on your cars too, or am I missing some attachment that keeps the top down?

Thanks in Advance,
Mark B

Mine did the same thing before I replaced it...there are some straps that attach the top to the frame that may be torn on yours. All mine were torn, so my top would bubble right up. It still does a tiny bit, but nothing like before I replaced the top.

Got a new top and the bubbling was greatly reduced. However, the glue has come loose on bow #2 and it lifts up quite a bit there. Think the installer stretched it too tight from bow 2 to bow 3....I can run my fingers under the bow now.....guess i need to reglue that one down.

I thought there should have been something to keep it down. In my car, if I am on the highway with my windows shut, there is about 4 inches of space between the bar above my head & the top!!

There's no real harm in this, but then again, from my own experience, my top had water shrink damage that grew worse over time and may have resulted partly from air pressure. The only think I recall holding mine down was some remnants of strings left on the middle bow, seemed to have been sowed into the top to retain it. Where are the straps, typically?

Dang Bill is that the best picture you can get? Saved it and tried to lighten it and it is still too dark to do anything with. What I could see it almost looks to be in shreds.

I'd already minipulated those pics. They were taken in the car wash while I was cleaning/defrosting the whole car on a near zero temp night. The bad thing, really besides the mist I guess, is the camera itself was left in the car outside. since it's digital, not sure what effect the weather had, but I assume, not a good thing to do anyway. You bet it's shredded up now! I had to clean it off after the initial cracking, it wound up breaking pieces off over time, and not only that, but on a few occasions a work buddy and I used a stick via the hole to unlock the pass door! It's terrible to even admit this, knowing car crooks certainly don't need to know it, but formerly anyway, I had a nasty habit of locking my keys in there. I seemed to have corrected that at least!
