Ratles Driving Me Crazy....
Hey everyone,
I want to drive my car into a brick wall. These rattles are driving me nuts. All of the rattles are in the convertible top. Cause when I drive with the top down, I dont hear any of them. I think there are two major rattles. One is to the left side of my head when I drive (Just above the window) & the other is on the passenger side just behind the window. I know eventually I will put a cage in the car, but I would like to dlay that as long as possible.

At one time I had several rattle problems. One that seemed to be coming from just above the left window turned out to be the left A-pillar cover (the interior piece near the windshield). Make sure it's tight and not rubbing/vibrating anywhere (and check the RH one as well). I think I stuck a little foam rubber in mine.
Another spot was in the RH-roof area that apparently was coming from the metal frame torsion bar area (the thin metal rod). Check those out on both sides. Also check the plastic windshield header cover trim piece where the latches connect.
One more thing to check. When you open your door you'll see a small, angled black piece of plastic that is fastened to the door jamb w/2 screws (just above the door latch). There will be a matching one on the 1/4 panel jamb. These help with keeping the door snug when closed. With your door shut, shine a flashlight down from above and see if there'a gap where these two adjusters meet. If there is, you will need to shim one of them out until the two fit snugly when the door is shut (don't over do it though). A little drop of oil on these helps prevent squeaking too.
These problems I had developed on my car with just a few thousand miles on it. But it's all nice and quiet now.

I have solved a couple also. Just found one today. Those mentioned above are good too.
The first is that interior trim piece along the L and R sides of the windshield. Undo the screw at the top and youll see that its just plastic squeaking on plastic now underneathe. Whatever barrier that was there is shot now. I like using the fuzzy material portion of velcro to wedge in between the 2 pices of plastic that rub. Works like a charm.
The other most annoying rattle was on the convertible outermost side rails. If you follow those rails all the way back to their ends (at the rear upper window corners), youll see that they contact the main horizontal rail (right above the b-pillars when the top is up). Looks like there is a provision there, on the side rail for a bushin g. Mine were gone. I used strips of duct tape on the ends of the side rail where the provisions are too see if it made a difference. It worked great. You can try the velvcro also, but it doesnt look like that much clearance between the two pieces of metal that rattle together.
