I love my 92 z28 vert. There's simply no replacement for it. After spending some time fixing it up and getting it just as I like it ... there's only one thing I'm kinda bothered by.
The convertible top switch is behind me in the back of the car. Yeah its a great idea to keep some moron from trying to open it while its locked down or even worse .... doing triple digits on the highway. But what if you're in a rush to get the top up because the storm of the century decided to dump on you?
My question to you all is .... has anybody rewired their convertible top switch with the bypass so you can raise it and lower it without having to turn the car off? It could just be me but I have to park the car and turn it off in order to raise or drop the top.
Has anybody rewired it and moved it up to the drivers side dash?
What i'd love to do is put it something to trick the system into letting me open and close it at any time ... and move it up to the right side of my wheel where there's an empty switch spot. I'd also sink it in so I don't accidentally press it and ruin my top. I also thought about putting in like a plastic cover so i have to open it ... then press the switch.
Any ideas? Anybody done it? Thanks everyone!

I'm not sure why you have to turn your car off to raise your tonneau. I have to be in park, but the car can still be running. You can move that switch wherever you want to. Prior to 91-92, it was in the center console between the power window switches where the hatch release would be on a coupe/t-top car.

You are going to have to park your car and actually get out to secure / stow your top. Why you would want to turn it off I do not know.
It is a manual top you know. No hydraulic pump or pistons. I beleive the only electric component on there, is the actuator that pops the tonneau cover. The aft top release is mechanical and requires that when the top is in the "up" position that you push it down to lock it in place.
I don't really see what it is that you would gain, by moving that one switch. Or is YOUR car drastically different from a 1992 convertible?

Yep, just pull the two release cables as I have done for years (since owning) We don't need no stinkin' switch... though it would be nice hehehe
Anyway, only takes about 3 minutes at the very most I'd say, if you have some problem to get it unlatched front and rear and folded down/up

Bypass GM's tonneau release safety feature? Not a good idea. It is designed this way so you DON'T accidently pop the tonneau while driving. They just want to make sure that you aren't driving. On an auto if the ignition is on, you'll have to put it in Park. Be glad your switch is located where it is. On prior years you have to duck your head and reach inside to the center console location between the window switches.

I have a mirror position switch selected with a sliding one above it for each door mirror, the drivers side needing replacement. Since it's pointed out I have the solenoid releases, I just need to figure where my switch ran off to, likely will have to fashion something in my case. Nothing on the dash. I'd actually prefer on the lower dash panel where spaces are filled for deleted options
