Convertible Latches dont grip the same...
Hey everyone,
The two latches that hold down the front of my convertible top dont hold the top down with the same force. you can feel it while latching them. The drivers side is rather hard to latch and the passenger side is farily easy. I looked at the shiming in the handles and they are both shimed the same amount. I know I can take shims out of the passenger side latch to make it tighter, but I would like to know why my car is crooked!

SWAG
Here is a SWAG about your problem (SWAG = Scientific Wild Azzed Guess!)
Check the upstop adjustment. There may be a more scientific way to do this but just raise the top and lay the front in place. Note the amount of gap between the front and the windshield. It should be fairly close. I'm guessing that the side that is hardest to pull is set farther back and the side with the easy pull has the upstop set farther forward...
Maybe that it has nothing to do with it but it's worth a look...

There is definitly a difference in the gap. How do I adjust the up-stop? Is that the stoppers near where the top mounts to the body?

upstop adjust
I will get out my chilton manual this evening and send you verbatum...
If you look in front of the pivot point at the "B" pillar with the top down you will see the upstop. The upstop adjust how far forward the top is allowed to travel when being raised. If everything is set properly the top should drop into place with just a little bit of persuasion. If the upstop is adjusted too far forward the top will be "loose" if it is adjustted too far aft then it will be difficult getting the top into position to be latched... The adjustment can be made with two wrenches. and the whole process should take ten minutes to half an hour at the most.
As I write this I am about two minutes from dropping my top and heading off to work in a branch office about 80 miles away. Looking forward to a nice ride this morning!
